Peer Review Policy

Vera Academic Press is committed to ensuring the academic quality, integrity, and credibility of all publications through a rigorous and transparent peer review process.

All scholarly monographs, edited volumes, and individual book chapters submitted to the Press are subject to peer review in accordance with the principles outlined below.

1. Type of Peer Review

Vera Academic Press applies a double-blind peer review model.

In this process:

  • The identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other

  • Reviewers assess submissions solely on scholarly merit, without knowledge of the author(s)’ identity or affiliation

2. Scope of Peer Review

Peer review applies to:

  • Scholarly monographs

  • Edited volumes

  • Individual book chapters

In the case of edited volumes:

  • The volume proposal is subject to editorial assessment

  • Each individual chapter undergoes independent double-blind peer review

3. Editorial Screening

Before external peer review, all submissions undergo an internal editorial screening to assess:

  • Alignment with the aims and scope of the Press

  • Compliance with basic scholarly and ethical standards

  • Completeness of required files and metadata

Submissions that do not meet these criteria may be rejected or returned to authors prior to external review.

4. Reviewer Selection

Reviewers are selected by the editorial team based on their academic expertise and independence.

  • Reviewers must have relevant scholarly qualifications

  • Conflicts of interest are avoided

  • Authors may suggest potential reviewers, but final selection rests solely with the editors

5. Review Process

Each eligible submission is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers.

Reviewers are asked to evaluate submissions based on criteria including:

  • Originality and scholarly contribution

  • Academic rigor and methodological soundness

  • Relevance to the field and publication series

  • Clarity, structure, and quality of academic writing

Reviewers provide written reports and recommendations to support editorial decision-making.

6. Editorial Decisions

Based on reviewer reports and editorial judgment, the editorial team may decide to:

  • Accept the submission

  • Accept with minor revisions

  • Request major revisions and resubmission

  • Reject the submission

Publication is not guaranteed, and editorial decisions are final.

7. Confidentiality

All materials submitted for peer review are treated as confidential.

Reviewers must not disclose, share, or use information obtained during the review process for personal or professional advantage.

8. Ethical Considerations

The peer review process at Vera Academic Press adheres to recognized ethical standards.

Reviewers and editors are required to:

  • Declare any competing interests

  • Maintain objectivity and professional conduct

  • Report suspected ethical issues or misconduct

Suspected cases of misconduct are handled in accordance with the Press’s Publication Ethics & Malpractice Statement.

9. Transparency and Record Keeping

Vera Academic Press maintains records of peer review activities to support transparency and accountability.

Peer review reports are used solely for editorial purposes and are not publicly disclosed.
