Thesis to Book Policy

Vera Academic Press considers revised and substantially reworked master’s and doctoral theses for publication as scholarly monographs, provided that they meet the academic standards and editorial scope of the Press.

Publication of a thesis as a book is not automatic. Theses are evaluated and reviewed according to the same scholarly and ethical standards applied to all other submissions.

1. Eligibility

The Press considers:

  • Doctoral dissertations

  • Master’s theses

provided that the thesis has been successfully defended and approved by the relevant academic institution.

The original thesis format is not accepted for publication.

2. Required Revision and Rewriting

Theses submitted for consideration must be substantially revised and rewritten to function as scholarly books. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Reframing the work for a broader scholarly readership

  • Revising the structure and argumentation

  • Reducing or reworking extensive literature review and methodology chapters

  • Updating references and incorporating recent scholarship

  • Adapting language, tone, and style to book-length academic writing

Manuscripts that closely resemble the original thesis format may be rejected at the internal screening stage.

3. Authorship and Supervision

The author of the thesis must be the sole or primary author of the submitted manuscript.

Where required by institutional regulations, authors must confirm that no restrictions apply to the publication of the thesis as a book. A written statement or approval from the thesis supervisor or institution may be requested.

4. Originality and Prior Availability

The Press acknowledges that many theses are deposited in institutional repositories.

Such availability does not automatically preclude publication; however, the submitted manuscript must demonstrate clear intellectual and structural transformation beyond the original thesis.

5. Peer Review

All thesis-based manuscripts undergo:

  • Internal editorial screening

  • Double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers

Reviewers are instructed to evaluate the work as a book manuscript, not as a thesis.

Publication is not guaranteed.

6. Copyright and Licensing

Upon acceptance for publication, authors are required to sign the Publishing Agreement and transfer copyright of the work to Vera Academic Press.

Published books are released under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license. This does not affect the author’s moral rights, including the right to be identified as the author of the work.

7. DOI Assignment and Publication

Accepted thesis-based books are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) through Crossref.

The final published version will be considered the version of record.

8. Submission Procedure

Authors interested in submitting a thesis-based manuscript should:

  1. Review the Author Guidelines and Publishing Agreement

  2. Prepare a revised book manuscript in accordance with the Press’s standards

  3. Submit the manuscript through the Open Monograph Press (OMP) system

  4. Indicate during submission that the work is based on a master’s or doctoral thesis

9. Editorial Discretion

Vera Academic Press reserves the right to decline submissions that do not meet the scholarly, ethical, or editorial standards required for publication as a book.
